The Lake Region's Three Largest Furniture Showrooms Van Gorders' is a 4th-generation family-owned business that began in 1936 when Ralph Van Gorder founded it as the Honesdale Furniture Exchange within a sprawling four-floor historic landmark that was originally the National Hotel, and has stood at the corner of Church and Sixth Streets since 1865. Since that time, the business has grown and changed with the times. In 1978, Don Van Gorder opened a modern second showroom on Route 6 at beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack. His son Scott joined the business and brought a distinct focus on lodge- and Adirondack-style furnishings that reflect the natural beauty of the Pocono Mountains, Catskills and Delaware River Highlands. Scott's three sons Derek, Dylan and Max have since entered the business, and in October 2014 Van Gorders' Furniture expanded into its third showroom in Milford. "We have staying power, a unique product mix, and an honest approach to business," adds Scott. Through more than 75 years in business, however, some things have never changed such as a caring and knowledgeable professional staff with many years of valuable experience. Every team member at Van Gorders' Furniture is dedicated to providing an enjoyable and relaxing shopping experience, which means being helpful without being pushy, just like the old days.
