HONESDALE, PA, November 16, 2018—Wayne Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO) is pleased to announce that Kitty Hawk Technologies of Honesdale, PA, has been named their 2018 Innovator of the Year.

Robert Suhosky accepted the award on behalf of Kitty Hawk Technologies at a special luncheon held by WEDCO on Friday, Nov. 16, at The Settlers Inn, Hawley.  Kitty Hawk Technologies also received Certificates of Recognition from Senator Lisa Baker and State Representative Jonathan Fritz.

Guest speaker for the event was J. Philip Gottwals, Managing Director of the consulting firm Agricultural & Community Development Services (ACDS).  Mr. Gottwals spent many hours this year analyzing the local agriculture industry in order to draft the Wayne County Economic Development Plan for Agriculture, which will be released next month. Mr. Gottwals spoke to the audience of business, government and community leaders about technology and its fundamental role in today’s agricultural activities.

Established in 2013, Kitty Hawk Technologies is a Veteran-owned, Small Business that works with multiple Department of Defense (DoD) customers, including the Missile Defense Agency and the Navy, to improve agility and precision in Defense solutions in order to allow both the warfighter and the DoD to perform to the best of their abilities.

The company is a key supporter of the DoD’s capability to counteract North Korea’s missile testing program. With technical services being performed in Dahlgren, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Huntsville, Alabama, Kitty Hawk’s Honesdale office is leveraging advanced information technology and adaptive procedures in order to manage those efforts remotely while maintaining the highest levels of quality to its customers.  The concept of computer-based collaborative environments, distributed engineering tools, and advanced communication networks is vital to the company’s success.

WEDCO President Steve Clark noted that at first glance, missile defense systems and Honesdale appear to be a curious mix.  He went on to explain that in reality, having an innovative and advanced defense solutions company located in small-town Pennsylvania exemplifies how modern technology makes geography more irrelevant.

“Kitty Hawk’s presence is tangible evidence of why rural areas must pursue high-speed broadband and why WEDCO can and should market Wayne County as a place with the business infrastructure to succeed and the lifestyle you deserve.”

In January 2018, Kitty Hawk Technologies was awarded the coveted ISO 9001 certification.  ISO Quality Management System standards allow organizations to ensure that they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders while also meeting statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product or service.

In August 2018, Kitty Hawk Technologies was granted HUBZone Certification. HUBZone is a U.S. Small Business Administration program that provides a certified business with certain advantages in obtaining government contracts. Choosing a creative approach to meeting HUBZone employment requirements, Kitty Hawk formed a wholly-owned subsidiary doing business as Auto Express Detailing, which employs 10 Honesdale Borough residents

Kitty Hawk’s primary responsibility is to the warfighter, and its corporate vision flows from that commitment. The company consistently strives to bring capability and solutions to the front lines quickly, effectively, and affordably.

Kitty Hawk Technologies is in the forefront of the delivery of new capabilities and advanced technologies for the DoD and continues to bring innovation and critical thinking to the fight. The experience and capabilities of its team enable the company to embrace and leverage new and innovative tools and technologies.

Kitty Hawk is committed to bringing challenging and rewarding jobs to Wayne County and is ideally positioned to expand its operations.  Building on the superior quality of life in Wayne County, Kitty Hawk intends to leverage the potential of the Northeast Pennsylvania workforce though its adaptive business practices and innovative tools.
